Open Call for application for participation in the Trans Culture Camp 2022
Bikalpa Art Center is excited to invite young and upcoming creatives, alongside anyone interested in the creative fields to take part in our upcoming program ‘Trans Culture Camp (TCC). We encourage individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines from the sciences and technology sector to those already working in art-adjacent fields and everyone else in between to participate.
What is Trans Culture Camp (TCC)?
The TCC is an intensive transdisciplinary educational fellowship/ residency alike curatorial mentorship program, that aims to bring together young and upcoming artists from different disciplines, in the spirit of collaboration, and use collective wisdom to produce individual works of art. Transdisciplinary collaboration encourages the exchange of ideas across disciplinary boundaries, facilitating the production of holistic solutions and cohesive space to create a common ground of speech and create new works of art.
Who can Apply?
This program is designed to support young upcoming aspiring creative thinkers from all different disciplines focusing on the theme of socio-political/ environmental awareness, gender equality, LGBTQ+ issue, freedom of expression, and mental health. We consider an inclusive representation, so we will be looking carefully into the niche candidates who are who are Nepali citizens andalso below their 30s. The TCC will bring together the young.
When does the program start and how does it work?
The Trans Culture Camp 2022 will start on 1st November 2022 and will end on 30th April 2023. The Curatorial team and mentors will guide you throughout the course of the six-month-long experiential journey. The project consists of research, comparative studies, a series of workshops, master classes, artists’ talks, and presentations, exchange of ideas and collaboration, artwork production, and multiple showcases. Please know that the project spirit is based on each of the participants’ cooperation, collaboration, and significant commitment.
By participating in this project, you will have the opportunity to work in a creative environment with a diverse group of professionals and people from the wider (local/ international) artistic community which strengthen your creative skills and professional capability.
Participant’s responsibilities
We suggest applicants think twice before making the application in terms of their availability and the time they need to give for the project. The most we expect from the selected participants is their commitment and their active participation in the major programs and activities of the project. It is also expected that the selected artists will donate at least a piece of work by the end of the program.
What are the Studio’s working hours?
The whole idea of the program is to make good use of time and space. We expect participants to take benefit to the fullest by their active participation in all the major programs and activities. Apart from the major programs and activities, all the participating artists are expected to give at least 15 hours a week at the studio given by BAC.
What can be the output/ outcome of the program?
The expected output of the project will be showcasing the participants’ talents in the public domain and the expected outcome could be community engagement and public awareness, promotion of new forms of arts and cross dialogues with strengthening the creative skills and professional capacity, sustainable career in the creative industry
What does BAC Provide?
BAC will cover all expenses for all the programs and activities that take place under the TCC with a monthly stipend to all the participating artists. More than the financial support it also provides a professional/ focused environment, work studio spaces, and curatorial mentorship spaces for networking, marketing, and promotions.
Selection Process
BAC curatorial team will overview all the applications and the applicants should undergo a selection process to analyze their willingness to participate on various grounds.
How to apply?
All the applicants should submit the following information:
- A proposal/ motivation letter that should address the reason for wanting to undertake the program.
- A complete/ updated artist’s portfolio including a brief biography and resume
- A copy of the identity card (citizenship/ passport)
- A profile image
